Job Title: Theatrical Cosmotology Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES
- Responsible for the overall organization, cleanliness, repair, and maintenance of all Cosmetology department needs, Dressing Rooms for the Mainstage Shows, Bumpers, and entertainment events including theme nights and Cruise Programs Costumes.
- Oversee all aspects of the Cosmetology department onboard, including, but not limited to, maintenance of all production company makeup and wigs, makeup inventory, backstage wig/makeup application, cleanliness of wigs, supply needs, and communication to onboard management and shore side.
- Participate in socializing, sea day activities, night duties, and other tasks as assigned.
- To consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services.
- Supervisor of all team members within the Cosmetology department.
- Create a working plan for each cruise to ensure the work is evenly distributed between team members.
- Assume personal responsibility for safety and NCLH’s impact upon the environment.
PRODUCTION SHOW OPERATIONS
- Attend Theatrical Operations Manager’s (TOM) weekly meetings.
- Establish team meetings at least once a cruise to discuss any issues, conflicts, schedule changes, re-blocks, etc. (All wardrobe and cosmetology crew members should be in attendance) Take any questions and/or challenges from this meeting to TOM.
- Be a positive influence by encouraging crew members to help each other while also ensuring everyone is keeping up with their own workload.
- Work with the Lead Wardrobe Supervisor, to create a streamlined system based on the known strengths of those in the team. Help bolster and teach if you notice any challenges that crew members may be struggling with.
- Possess quick thinking skills in terms of repairs, re-blocks/refits, and live entertainment.
- Work with the Lead Wardrobe Supervisor, Dance Captain, Vocal Captain, and Company Manager to create a working show day schedule and any re-blocks needed during the contract.
- ;Dress shows and create backstage tracks for the entire cosmetology team including over hire dressers. Including any re-block tracks. (This is for ships with more than one Wig Supervisor).
- Recruit and train over hire dressers.
- Pack road boxes with original inventory list. Fill out and submit proper offload paperwork in a timely manner with the Lead Wardrobe Supervisor.
- Assist with any millinery repair.
- Be present at all technical and show runs for all Production Company shows and bumpers.
- Prepare a voyage report at the end of each sailing for the Shoreside Team with the Lead Wardrobe Supervisor.
- Empower each crew member to write about their individual shows on the report. Review the report and add any additional details for clarity as needed. Without changing what other crew members have written.
- Participate in entertainment-related events for themed-holidays onboard, This can include an onboard-produced Holiday show, and Equator Crossing events
- Follow all protocols set by EPM, TOM, Stage Manager, Assistant Cruise Director, and/or Cruise Director regarding stage safety and backstage etiquette.
- Supervise Production Cast wig/makeup presets, and set protocols for proper care and maintenance of costumes, accessories, shoes, etc.
- Attend all scheduled entertainment meetings.
- Shift scenery as needed and assigned for the smooth running of the show.
- Participate in promotional performances, photo shoots, or events related to assigned shows or vessels.
- Participate in assigned Question and Answer sessions with other Show Captains.
- Participate and be present for all back-stage tours.
- Organize and clean all dressing areas, stock areas, costume racks and road boxes.
- Maintain all Hazards stored appropriately and have accurate SDS’s according to onboard Environmental/Safety Officer.
- Maintain an accurate monthly inventory that is updated on the Shared Drive.
- Complete monthly supply inventory and submit according to instructions from the Theatrical Cosmetology Supervisor.
- Ability to self-manage to ensure all work gets done in a timely manner while staying in the guidelines of Rest-Work hours.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training of over-hire dressers.
- Advanced level of English verbal and writing skills.
- Knowledge of cruise ship entertainment operations.
- Understanding of theatrical cosmetology practices and principles.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
- Problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, and stress management.
- Work well with different personalities and nationalities within the cast and crew.
- Understanding of the highest level of service.
- Outgoing personality, open minded and flexible.
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments, and deadlines.
- Excellent appearance and social skills. • Well organized. • Basic knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Expertise in hairdressing, period hairstyling, roller sets, theatrical quick changes, hand sewing, wig repair, care, application, and makeup continuity.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Theatrical Cosmetology, Theatrical Costuming, or Theatrical management preferred, or any equivalent combination of relevant and work-related skills and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of Cosmetology Shop Management in a theatrical cosmetology building and alteration, OR
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Wig/Cosmetology Supervisor, Assistant on tour or in summer stock companies, OR
- Minimum of 2 years of cruise ship experience as Wig/Cosmetology Supervisor
