Theatrical Costuming Workroom Stitcher

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES

  • Pay starts at $17.00 per hour, contractor position.
  • Experienced level of tailoring and couture garment construction.
  • Sew theatrical costumes to the specifics requested by management, in a timely fashion. 
  • Ability to use company size chart to take measurement of performers. 
  • Operate commercial and industrial equipment to include Single needle industrial sewing machine, industrial serger, double needle cover stitch machine, industrial ruffler, patch machine, industrial steamers and irons. 
  • Must be able to handle alterations on couture garments and to be able to alter tailored garments in a professional manner and time frame. 
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and use of materials, interlinings, and interfacings in manufacturing of garments. 
  • Ability to construct and alter theatrical costumes using NCLH seam allowance guidelines and techniques. 
  • Must be able to take instruction in a professional and positive manner. 
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and maintain a professional work ethic. 
  • Must be able to multitask on several projects and productions at the same time. 
  • Perform crafts and millinery building and repair if needed. 
  • Perform other job-related functions as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Theatrical Costuming or related field of study; or any equivalent combination of relevant background and work experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years costume shop experience in theatrical costume building and alteration, ship experience fitting and altering costumes or experience working on tour or in summer stock companies.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL

  • Expertise in theatrical alterations, hand and machine sewing. Knowledge of theatrical wardrobe practices and principles. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts, including remote team onboard ships. Sound problem solving.
