Costume Shop Build Supervisor

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES

  • Pay begins at $27.00 per hour.
  • Manage build schedule, labor assignments, material needs, fitting deadlines, and delivery dates for all build garments.
  • Develop and maintain labor schedule and tracking system to operate within labor assets and budget. 
  • Assign build projects to draping teams to achieve a balanced workload. 
  • Hold weekly meetings with team to access progress and adjust any necessary schedule. 
  • Track Labor and materials on all build garments for comparison to outside vendors. 
  • Coordinate with Senior Costume Coordinator as to what projects the build shop can accept and what will need to be outsourced.
  • Order shop supplies and materials to hit delivery deadline and budgets in a timely. 
  • Inspect all build garments for quality of construction and accuracy of build spec sheets. 
  • Develop a speck sheet for all new garment to include clear step by step build instructions, all necessary notions and yardage required of all material. 
  • Sketches of garment to be added once position is accrued. 
  • Attend fittings as necessary with draping teams to ensure proper fit per Designers needs and Costuming seam allowance guild lines. 
  • To enforce all safety rules and health guidelines per company policies. 
  • To assist the workroom on any built project or anything else needed in the work area.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Theatrical Costuming; or any equivalent combination of relevant work-related skills and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Management experience preferred, but similar professional costume shop experience and/or educational experience with supervisory or management experience will also be considered. The candidate should have a mastery of costume construction and fabrication techniques, and knowledge of cutting, draping and patterning.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL

  • Knowledge of and general experience in theatrical sewing applications. Excellent organizational skills. Computer knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
