Responsibility and Authority

Theatre Operations and Maintenance

  1. Responsible for live calling all shows in the main theatrical venue.
  2. Must be present for all technical rehearsals, tech runs, and shows occurring in the main venue.
  3. Protect and maintain production show integrity and approved content.
  4. Maintain and update production show books with cues for all production shows and bumpers on the ship.
  5. Point of contact onboard for the guest entertainers for scheduling, promotional materials, rehearsals, s/on and s/off procedures, etc.
  6. Main point of contact and coordinator for all events occurring in main theatrical venue.
  7. Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the main theatrical venue is prepared for guest events.
  8. Work with the Technical Supervisor to make sure all production show sets and equipment are well maintained.
  9. Make sure the theater meets all safety codes and proper safety protocols are being followed as per company guidelines.
  10. Conduct frequent inspections and physically walk through all theatre production spaces to ensure they are well maintained and kept according to policies.
  11. Supervise the storerooms and inventories, adhering to safe storage practices.

Reporting 

  1. Write and distribute voyage production reports accurately detailing show details, status of production elements, and any needs for production shows or theatrical venue.
  2. Write evaluation report for guest entertainer performance.
  3. Write venue/show synopsis for end of cruise report(s) as requested by Cruise Director.
  4. Ensure timely and direct reporting for any show critical equipment failures, maintenance requirements, injuries, HR related issues, or other show-stopping events to onboard and shoreside management personnel.

Scheduling

  1. Work closely with the Cruise Director on scheduling all shows and events for production cast and guest entertainers.
  2. Maintain and update a production grid for the main theatre to distribute to Cruise Director, entertainment managers & supervisors, production crew members and other onboard departments as needed.
  3. Maintain and distribute weekly schedule of events for production show cast and guest entertainers.
  4. Maintain and distribute weekly rotation for the production cast for all assigned cruise programs events.
  5. Work alongside Entertainment Admin to ensure the Freestyle Daily accurately reflects the schedule as set by Cruise Director for theatrical events.
  6. Secure rehearsal space as requested by Captains for cleaning or extra work i.e. aerobics room, lounges, etc.
  7. Work with the Cruise Director to properly schedule all production installs, rehearsals and guest entertainers.
  8. Work with the Install Production Stage Manager and Production team to ensure proper time is scheduled to install the shows on the ship; communicate prior to arrival and during install timeline and liaise with Cruise Director and onboard management for all requests and requirements.

Supervisory/Management Duties

  1. Oversee the Technical Supervisor and technical team onboard.
  2. Hold weekly production meetings with production and technical team onboard to discuss schedule, issues and upcoming events.
  3. Hold weekly company meetings with production cast members and wardrobe supervisor to discuss schedules, issues and upcoming events.
  4. Address all production team and guest issues in a timely manner; seek onboard resolutions and escalate to onboard entertainment management and Manager, Theatrical Operations if unable to resolve.
  5. Manage cast and production show team members to encourage open communication, full disclosure of information and adherence to ship and company guidelines.

Training and Development

  1. Conduct disciplinary action according to ship guidelines for production show department.
  2. Responsible for the evaluation process of the production cast members and wardrobe supervisor (monthly and end of contract).
  3. Supervise and include observations on evaluations (monthly and end of contract) for all technical team members with the Technical Supervisor.
  4. Responsible for the development and growth of all crew members, managers and supervisors using the performance improvement plan and evaluation forms for documentation.
  5. Communicates standards of performance to employees by also being an ambassador and role model of all company’s policies, procedures and standards.
  6. Creates and maintains a positive work environment;
  7. Fosters teamwork within all departments onboard;
  8. Assists the onboard management in implementing and maintaining guidelines, procedures and training practices set by the corporate office.

Safety

  1. Monitor the practical application of the Company's policy, procedures and instructions.
  2. Immediately report to onboard management any instances where the vessel is unable or fails to comply with any Company’s policy, procedure, instruction, and any safety, environmental, or security requirement. 3.
  3. Participate in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions from ship’s command;
  4. Comply with company safety and pollution prevention regulations.
  5. Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Policy, SMS, operational policies and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.

Other Duties

  1. Performs other production related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Theater and/or Stage Management or equivalent/relevant course of study (eg. Business or Human Resources) preferred.
  2. Three to five years of experience and/or employment in Company Manager or theatrical general manager position or equivalent experience in a similar field.
  3. Knowledge of and experience working in cruise ship entertainment operations preferable.

Profile

  1. Able to work 7 days a week with long hours for entire contract length.
  2. Proven diplomatic ability to effectively manage a diverse team of entertainment and production professionals.
  3. Adept at communication, articulate, high level of English verbal, reading and writing competency.
  4. Highly effective organizational ability, time management, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  5. Ability to work long and demanding hours with a high level of stress management.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Q-Lab and basic a/v equipment.
  7. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with internal and external contacts from a remote location (ship).
  8. Critical thinking, problem solving skills required.
  9. Passionate about hospitality and customer service driven.
  10. Must have a professional appearance and good hygiene.
  11. Respect for all co-workers and guests.
