JERSEY BOYS
From the mean streets of Jersey to American Bandstand, this is the thrilling story of how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became the biggest doo-wop sensation of all time: The Four Seasons. Using their legendary music, two-time Tony Award winner, Des McAnuff brings to life the exciting early days of rock-and-roll, and the price of fame for four guys who had nothing – and everything- to lose.
Franki Valli
20s-early 30s. Must be 5’9” or shorter. Must have a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli. Strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G. Likable, charismatic and charming. Must be a very strong actor (comfortable with narrative text) a natural storyteller with a gritty side as well as a polished veneer. Must be very comfortable with traditional four part harmonies. Leading role.
Bob Gaudio
Preferably tall. Strong tenor/bari-tenor voice (high belt Gnatural). Must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies. Also needs to be comfortable with narrative text and be likable and engaging. An intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy. Leading role.
Tommy DeVito
30s. Strong tenor/bari-tenor voice. Must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies. Also needs to be comfortable with narrative text. Ability to play guitar a plus but not required. A natural-born leader with an appealing, bad-boy quality. He must be a great actor. Leading role.
Nick Massi
30s. Strong bass/baritone voice. (Low E a plus) Must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies. Also needs to be comfortable with narrative text. A quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons. Leading role.
Gyp DeCarlo
35-50. Tough, mafioso type. Must be a good actor and strong singer. Supporting role.
Bob Crewe
30-40. Intelligent and flamboyant – genius music producer and lyricist. An integral part of creating the magic of the Four Seasons. Enthusiastic and energetic. Supporting role.
Joe Pesci
20s-early 30s. Must be 5’9” or shorter. Young, energetic. Must be a good actor and a strong singer. Ensemble role. Will understudy ‘Frankie Valli.’ so must have a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli. Strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G. Featured ensemble role.
Barry Belson
20s-40s. Strong actor/singer to play various roles (friends, producers, etc). Strong tenor to high C, with a strong falsetto to G-above-high-C, and the ability to riff in rhythm-and-blues style. Featured ensemble role. Note: This character is non-caucasian.
Three Women
20s-mid 30s. Fabulous, versatile actress/singers with flexible vocal registers to play a variety of roles (the many girlfriends of the Four Seasons, etc). Should fit well together a la 60’s band Shangrilas and be believable as ‘tough-as-nails’ Jersey girls. Must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies. All three women need to belt and/or have strong mix. One track belts up to F-natural and two tracks also need high soprano.
Two Men
20s-40s. Strong actor/singers to play various roles (friends, producers, etc). One track requires a baritone or bari-tenor voice down to a strong low G (low E a big plus).
